Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP)
CSP is a voluntary conservation program that encourages producers to address resource concerns in a comprehensive manner by: Under taking additional conservation activities; and Improving, maintaining, and managing existing conservation activities.
In 2011, the Hopi Three Canyon Ranch, LLC (H3CR) in collaboration with the Hopi Tribe, received a CSP contract for continued efforts to improve Hopi ranch lands located on H3CR. This program is designed to perform required improvements and techniques over a period of five years, in which participants receive an annual land-use payment for conservation performance. In 2015, the NRCS extended the program for another five (5) years.
CSP is available on Tribal and private agricultural lands in all 50 states. CSP works by encouraging land stewards to improve their conservation performance. This is done by installing and adopting additional activities, and improving, maintaining, and managing existing activities on agricultural land. It is doing what we already do, but at a higher level.
